Random crochet finds + the AI problem
Today we have a miscellany of things I came across on the internet this week. Oh, and I rant about AI crochet images. š
Enjoy! xoxo
String of Hearts Garland by Delia Creates (free!)
Just because I didnāt send out a newsletter last week doesnāt mean Iām going to forsake all Valentineās Day-themed patterns.
This heart garland crochet pattern by Delia Creates is a cute and easy pattern that works for any time of year, imo.
I am literally so obsessed with this
This isnāt a crochet pattern or anything, but I need to share it.
I just came across this post on r/crochet and I'm so obsessed. WHO MADE THIS. I hope it sells for $35.
Tiger Punch Needle Kit by Tina House Boutique
Love to crochet and knit? Why not become obsessed with another fiber art?
I got a punch needle kit as a gift last year. It was really fun! This tiger punch needle kit* gives you everything you need to get started on a new obsession.
The Problem with AI
How do yāall feel about AI art? I donāt know about you, but there are tons of AI crochet and knitting images floating around my instagram feed. I hate to be ~that person~ but I kind of really hate it.
Itās not so much the AI images themselves. For me, itās the fact that many of us donāt have the nuance or attention span to decipher AI-generated crochet images from real ones. Iām not knocking peopleās enjoyment of this new form of media. But I do think these images are misleading and donāt really add any value for crocheters/knitters.
So many people have sent me those AI crochet grannies (you know the ones) being like āOmg you should make this! Can you believe it?!ā No, I canāt believe it. Because itās not real. Also, those granny hands are really, really creepy. (If youāre reading this and you sent me that post, no, Iām no mad at you lol)
Lion Brand Yarn was recently in hot water when they posted some fantastical AI crochet images on their IG feed. Uh, people were not happy about it. Lion Brand was upfront about the images being AI art, but it didnāt land with their audience. The account had to turn off comments and close the little poll on the post.
It turns out lots of other fiber artists and crafters feel the same way as I do. Maybe Iām a curmudgeon. Oh well!
How do you feel about the AI crochet and knit images floating around out there?
