Random crochet finds + the AI problem

Today we have a miscellany of things I came across on the internet this week. Oh, and I rant about AI crochet images. šŸ˜…

Enjoy! xoxo

String of Hearts Garland by Delia Creates (free!)

Just because I didnā€™t send out a newsletter last week doesnā€™t mean Iā€™m going to forsake all Valentineā€™s Day-themed patterns.

This heart garland crochet pattern by Delia Creates is a cute and easy pattern that works for any time of year, imo.

I am literally so obsessed with this

This isnā€™t a crochet pattern or anything, but I need to share it.

I just came across this post on r/crochet and I'm so obsessed. WHO MADE THIS. I hope it sells for $35.

Tiger Punch Needle Kit by Tina House Boutique

Love to crochet and knit? Why not become obsessed with another fiber art?

I got a punch needle kit as a gift last year. It was really fun! This tiger punch needle kit* gives you everything you need to get started on a new obsession.

The Problem with AI

How do yā€™all feel about AI art? I donā€™t know about you, but there are tons of AI crochet and knitting images floating around my instagram feed. I hate to be ~that person~ but I kind of really hate it.

Itā€™s not so much the AI images themselves. For me, itā€™s the fact that many of us donā€™t have the nuance or attention span to decipher AI-generated crochet images from real ones. Iā€™m not knocking peopleā€™s enjoyment of this new form of media. But I do think these images are misleading and donā€™t really add any value for crocheters/knitters.

So many people have sent me those AI crochet grannies (you know the ones) being like ā€œOmg you should make this! Can you believe it?!ā€ No, I canā€™t believe it. Because itā€™s not real. Also, those granny hands are really, really creepy. (If youā€™re reading this and you sent me that post, no, Iā€™m no mad at you lol)

Lion Brand Yarn was recently in hot water when they posted some fantastical AI crochet images on their IG feed. Uh, people were not happy about it. Lion Brand was upfront about the images being AI art, but it didnā€™t land with their audience. The account had to turn off comments and close the little poll on the post.

It turns out lots of other fiber artists and crafters feel the same way as I do. Maybe Iā€™m a curmudgeon. Oh well!

How do you feel about the AI crochet and knit images floating around out there?
