Beyoncé-inspired crochet + Gee's Bend quilts

Hello crafty friends! You may have noticed that there was no newsletter last Friday. That was intentional.

I’m switching the Crochet Craft Club newsletter to a bi-weekly schedule. This is a much more manageable schedule for me.

Plus, I don’t know about you, but I get overwhelmed when my favorite newsletters send me a consistent stream of emails. I can never keep up!

Hopefully, with this new bi-weekly schedule, we can all keep up with crafty news and interesting patterns. :)

Enjoy! 🌼

Crochet: Cowboy Hat for Dogs

You’re probably wondering how I got here.

I was looking for patterns to celebrate Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album (out today!), and this was the only actual cute pattern I found.

You, too, can make a cowboy hat for your dog who loves country music and Bey.

Fan Moment: 16 Carriages Crochet Vest by seyvon genie

Crocheter extraordinaire @seyvongenie crocheted this immaculate vest in honor of Bey’s single “16 Carriages.”

Per the comments, there is no publicly available pattern. A few of these vests were sold as special editions, and they sold out QUICK. I love when crocheters and other fiber artists are recognized for their talent!

Like…HOW?! Would you be able to make something like this? I sure wouldn’t be able to!

Major props to this amazing artist.

Knit: The Cowgirl Crop by Maral Mokri

Of course, I couldn’t leave out the knitters! This Cowgirl Crop by Maral Mokri has the cutest motif.

I love the color combo of this top. It’s like the perfect combo of country and Barbie, imo.

You can buy the pattern via Ravelry. It has pretty good ratings!

The Gee’s Bend Quiltmakers

“every quilt remembers the ones that came before it.”

I thoroughly enjoyed this feature on the Gee’s Bend quiltmakers, whose quilts and motifs are celebrated as a cornerstone of American art and history.

I didn’t know too much about Gee’s Bend’s quilting tradition up until now. This piece visits quilters who are working today and brings their work to life for the rest of us who have yet to see one in person.

The piece dives into the history of Gee’s Bend, the process behind these famous quilts, and the push and pull between “craft” and “art.”

It’s on the longer side, but I highly recommend reading the whole thing!

Check out Souls Grown Deep to see a near-comprehensive collection of Gee’s Bend quilts.
