Crochet Craft Club No.3 | 12.29.23

let's look ahead to a year of crafting, shall we?

Welcome to the last Crochet Craft Club newsletter of 2023! Is it only the third newsletter ever? Yes! But what a wild ride these three newsletters have been.

As the year winds down, many crafters like to look back at their portfolio of finished objects.

Take a moment to celebrate all that you’ve created and all that you’ve learned.

Now, let’s plan for the year ahead! What do you plan to make and learn in 2024?

Crochet a Linen Pixel Temperature Blanket

Temperature blankets are popular projects to start in the new year. According to tl yarn crafts, “A temperature blanket is a crochet or knit afghan that represents a full year, where one row or square corresponds to the day’s temperature.”

This Linen Pixel Temperature Blanket is a wonderful free crochet pattern + tutorial if you’re interested in taking on a new project in 2024. I like this pattern because it’s different from the striped pattern typical of temperature blankets.

Knit a Ribbed Temperature Blanket

I’ve noticed that temperature blankets tend to lean more toward crochet. If you’re a knitter, have no fear. I found this cozy pattern by Gabrielle Knits.

This ribbed knit pattern can be worked as a blanket or scarf. The pattern looks super cozy, right? I love the idea of creating a scarf instead of a blanket.

No Touching at John Wayne Airport

someone let us install this in an airport!!

This newsletter is still pretty small (hi, mom*), so why not include a shameless plug for my personal crochet practice?

I’m proud and excited to share that threadwinners has an art installation at the John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana!

Curator Heather Bowling gave us the creative freedom to create a completely new piece to display in one of the airport’s glass cases in Terminal C. We made a 10-foot crochet hand, dozens of pom poms, and an overflowing treasure chest.

I still can’t believe that they let us install this giant, neon-pink thing in an airport. In ORANGE COUNTY. lol.

The installation will be up until March 2024. You don’t even need a flight to go in and see it. You can apply for an OC AirPASS at the airport to see this and the other incredible installations. The No Touching show is in Terminal C, across from Gate 20, approximately.

*My mom isn’t actually a subscriber. She’s not into newsletters.
